The Dickinson Press - May 11, 2010Suzie Thompson has taken her love for photography and turned it into her business. She offers distinctive images through Creative Edge Photography, located near Dickinson.“I offer really unique, cutting edge, sometimes really crazy, photo sessions,” Thompson said. “I want to break out of the norm. I don’t want to just set somebody on a background and just shoot.”She pushes herself to catch people in a natural setting.“I like to catch those unassuming moments,” Thompson said. “I want to catch people loving what they do. I want to tell a story of their life.”Wilson McLaughlin has had Thompson photograph his daughter, Isabella, and was impressed by the candid images Thompson produced.“She doesn’t make the kids smile, she just catches the kids being themselves,” McLaughlin said. “She caught Isabella just being her.”Thompson likes to have fun with her photo shoots.“I want my clients to feel the same way,” Thompson said. “I want them to feel at ease. I don’t want them to dread going to a photographer.”Thompson has always enjoyed taking pictures, but when she was given a digital camera a few years ago, her interest multiplied.“It seems like ever since then, life hasn’t been the same,” Thompson said. “I’ve always had a camera in my hand no matter what I’m doing or where I’m going and so I just thought I should take it to the next level and see how things go.”She recently finished training in photography and began taking professional photos in the fall.“I just knew it was something that I really wanted to do,” Thompson said. “I didn’t want to have regrets and photography really fulfills me. I just knew this was something I really wanted to do and so far I’m so happy. I absolutely love doing this.”McLaughlin said Thompson’s love of photography shows in her work.“She has a really great eye and a passion for her job,” he said. “For pictures in the future I will be going to her.”Thompson’s studio is located at her home east of Dickinson, where she can take indoor and outdoor photos.“I have nature’s backdrop all around me and I absolutely love that,” Thompson said.She is also willing to come to clients.“I go wherever I’m needed,” Thompson said.The business is rapidly expanding and she hopes to build a new studio soon.“I’m a acquiring a lot more things for my business and getting more people in here,” Thompson said. “I’m really excited to take that to the next level.”She can also add graphic elements to photos.“I do like to edit my photos and I like to do a lot of creative projects with my photos,” Thompson said.She does fine art photography that she plans to sell soon as well.“I put my whole heart into my photography,” Thompson said. “I like to frame them myself and mat them myself and do all of that just because it speaks more to who I am and I get to choose those things.”Creative Edge Photography is located at 3519 105th Ave. SW in Dickinson.
